As a part of our commitment to cultural and environmental sustainability and stewardship, Crooked Trails has partnered with Planting Empowerment to offer carbon offsets for all participants on our international travel programs. The cost is built in to the program fees, so there is no additional cost to participants.
Planting Empowerment (PE) is a socially responsible timber investment company. PE leases land from Panamanian subsistence farmers to reforest with mixed native species, offering competitive economic returns to investors as well as environmental and social benefits – CO2 sequestration, biodiversity, and local development projects.
Although we’ve been doing carbon offsets for some time now, this partnership will allow us to do what we do best - plug in at the community level. Planting Empowerment shares its profits with local people and partners with them on development projects. Plating Empowerment’s indigenous partnering community Arimae has agreed to conserve two and a half hectares of their rainforest reserve for every hectare that PE assists them with planting on their land.
